Time for your wake up call Devils fans. The Devils have committed a major party foul, whether they want to admit it or intended to do it the Devils circumvented the salary cap. Just like getting a DUI/DWI the Devils are now tainted.
For those that don't know the legal blood alcohol limit is .08, in California at least. When you have been convicted of a DUI you generally get five years probation in which you are now held to higher standards. You are no longer allowed to have any alcohol in your blood at all. How does this relate to the Devils you might be wondering?
The Devils just got the equivalent of a DUI in regards to salary cap circumvention. They got caught doing it and it doesn't matter if you agree with the ruling its a fact of life. So now that they got caught they have zero tolerance when it comes to cap circumvention. Everything they do that might be circumvention is going to be looked at. Whats worse for the Devils is now not only is the NHL looking at their activities but the NHLPA is getting involved also.
On that note, I'm sorry to tell you Devils fans what the Devils are doing right now is cap circumvention and everyone in the outside world can see it. Stop trying to cite "emergency situations" in that past that did not get investigated. The reason they did not get investigated is two fold, one they happened well into the season not the first week and two they did not happen to teams that were just found guilty of cap circumvention.
Its time to start being honest about the whole situation. Mismanaging the salary cap and not wanting teams to take advantage of you because you have to trade players to free up cap space is not an emergency situation. The Devils have circumvented the cap no fewer than three times and the NHL and NHLPA's willingness to disregard the CBA and try and keep the labor peace is the only reason the Devils have not been punished more. This all needs to end, the Devils need to trade players free up space and stop cheating. And Devils fans need to stop whining and understand you wanted Kovalchuk and all or the cap problems that came with him.
